Karu Arke Jewelry History —

It is not clear whether the jewelry marked Karu, Karu Fifth Ave., and Karu Arke Inc., was manufactured by Kaufman and Ruderman. The jewelry found in the market appears to have been manufactured from the 1940's to the 1970's. The Karu signature was first used in 1940, and Karu Arke in the 1950s. Much of the Karu jewelry employs aurora borealis rhinestones, incorporating beads in some of their creations, mostly in gold tone metal designs.

To me, some of the Karu jewelry looks like a cross between select Weiss and Warner pieces. I personally think it is another one of those underappreciated designer lines. I will pass along a note of interesting trivia which I’ve come across in different references on Karu Arke jewelry (providing it is factual). The comedian Andy Kaufman (comedian/actor) is reported to be a family member to Kaufman. The only thing I can find to back this up is under his Wikipedia bio they report that his father was a jewelry salesman.
