Hobé

This is such a beautiful and unusual demi-parure by Hobé. Gold tone metal makes up this rare set. The main row consists of what looks to me to be glass cabochons simulating pearls — they have a frosted look to them and they are domed. The row just below that is lined with a slightly larger snow white round dome shaped milk glass cabochon — the necklace is very heavy. Hanging between each white cab is a beautiful drop of faceted crystal beads, alternating pastel green and amber beads sitting atop amber rondelles. The pastel green beads have an ab finish that emit a rainbow color finish. The amber beads are not a solid color and have a givre appearance. Adding delicate interest are gold cupped flower findings. Ending the drops are an opaque white prism bead and finding. It has a hook closure which attaches to an extender that has 3 of the same lovely beads used in the necklace. The necklace is not signed but a definite match to the earrings which are signed. The earrings are clip back with the Hobe signature. Typical of this style of earring you will also see that it has the comfort cushion roller. Carnegie uses the same white, pastel green and amber beads with amber rondelles for the earrings.

Sometimes you are lucky enough to find an identical set to some of these glamorous vintage beauties but I believe this is one of those sets which you will not find available elsewhere. I have no issues to report. The necklace is in very good condition. So many outstanding pieces have gone into private collections and we may not see them resurface for decades to come. ID-718

This is most certainly a quality set and will not disappoint. It is definitely a fine example of Hobé to add to your collection or maybe your very first piece as a new Hobé collector.

Measurements:
Necklace — Approximately 16 ½" in length (from end to end) and the drop is approximately 1 ¾".
Earrings — Approximately 1 ⅛" in width.

Jacques Hobé Jewelry History —

The Hobé Company was founded in 1887 in Paris, France by Jacques Hobe, a master craftsman who was jeweler to the French court. Following technological advances in mass-production introduced during the Industrial Revolution, Hobé's descendants manufactured costume jewelry. His grandson William Hobe immigrated to New York City in the mid 1920's and established Hobe

Hobe studied the history of previous jewelry in the European courts. His signature filigree metal work was romantic and his large, deep colored cabochons, portrait enamels, and pearls gave the desired "royal" feel. William registered more than 100 patents for jewelry designs and sometimes created his jewelry pieces personally, by hand, using sterling, 14K gold, and semi-precious gemstones. What set Hobe apart from his contemporaries was that he was one of a very few designers who used a great deal of good quality semi-precious stones, and its usage of gold and silver plated settings. William Hobe is best known for floral pins set with precious stones in the shape of large bouquets.

Highly regarded by their peers through four generations of Old World craftsmen, The Hobé family has been providing stunning imaginative designs to the public since Jacques Hobé supplied costume jewelry with a "fine jewelry" look for the Parisienne social set of 1887. The subsequent years offered only the finest in costume pieces in a wide collection of versatile designs—each line standing apart from the last.

In its long history, Hobé always was focused on unique designs and high quality. They maintained their upscale image, keeping prices and distribution on the high-end. The original, family run Hobé Company stopped producing jewelry in the early 1990s, however, a Hobé company exists that still produces jewelry marked as Hobé.
