It does not surprise me that this highly sought designer was first a fashion designer who later designed jewelry to accessorize her fashion clothing. Glass jewels adorn the the gold mesh ribbon, which the lovely glass jewels sit atop, reminds me of fine draped fabric. The gold mesh theme continues as hollow loops cascade over the ribbon. The size and shape of the jeweled stones as well as the mix of colors is absolutely divine. This is a substantial piece, but surprisingly it isn’t as heavy as one might think. For the sake of full disclosure, I did notice a few tiny flea bites on the amethyst glass stone. I assure you this is a remarkable design which insists on being noticed.

Adele Simpson Jewelry History —

New York City-born Adele Simpson (1903-95) founded Adele Simpson Inc. in 1944, having worked for Ben Gershel and William Bass. In her twenties she was said to be one of the highest-paid designers in New York. Her clothes were worn by three American First Ladies: Lady Bird Johnson, Pat Nixon, and Barbara Bush. Adele Simpson produced costume jewelry to accessorize her clothing for a short time during the late 1940s and 1950s. Her unusual pieces were made in sterling silver or gold-plated metal, set with pave rhinestones, faceted crystals, and faux pearls, and were expensive at the time.
